Fall action is in full swing for Fairfield University Athletics as the Stags head into the conference portion of their 2024 schedules. Field hockey, volleyball, and men's soccer will open league play this weekend, while women’s soccer continues its dive into the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference slate.

Coming off a win at Columbia and a draw at #24 nationally ranked UConn, the men’s soccer team is back under the lights on Lessing Field this Saturday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. to host Marist in the Stags’ 2024 MAAC opener. Fairfield has been led this season by four goals and an assist from William Pierce ’26, including a hat trick in the victory at Columbia, while goalkeeper Viktor Nikolov ’26 recorded his first career shutout early this week at UConn.

Reigning MAAC Champion, Fairfield's volleyball team opens its conference ledger on the road with weekend trips to Iona and Manhattan. The Stags will be a battle-tested squad entering the MAAC schedule after a challenging non-conference slate that featured five 2023 NCAA postseason teams and seven who finished last fall among the nation’s top 100 in RPI. Maya Walker ’26 has been a force in the middle for Fairfield; last year’s MAAC Championship MVP has been named to the All-Tournament Team at both the DoTERRA Classic at BYU and the Yale Invitational this season.

MAAC action comes to the Leo D. Mahoney Arena next week with visits from Sacred Heart (Oct. 2), Quinnipiac (Oct. 5) and Merrimack (Oct. 6).

Fairfield's field hockey team begins its quest for a third Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship on Friday, Sept. 27 with a trip to perennial league contender Rider. The Stags’ next home contest is this Sunday, Sept. 29 at noon when Fairfield hosts Maine in non-conference action. Graduate student Emily Streib is the current NEC Defensive Player of the Week, after making eight saves in last weekend’s home win over New Hampshire.

Meanwhile, the women’s soccer team continues its MAAC slate this weekend, bringing a 3-0 league record (and 8-1 overall tally) to Siena for a Saturday, Sept. 28 matchup with the Saints. Owners of the nation’s second-longest win streak with six consecutive victories, the Stags’ current run includes a landmark win over Princeton as well as convincing triumphs over league foes Rider, Iona, and Niagara. Two-time MAAC Rookie of the Week Ashlyn Walsh ’28 leads Fairfield and ranks third in the MAAC with 13 points comprised of five goals and three assists.

Women’s Soccer returns to Lessing Field on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. to host Saint Peter’s. Tickets are available at FairfieldStags.com/TIX. 

Rounding out the traditional fall sports, Fairfield's cross country team has entered a four-week training period prior to the start of championship season on Friday, Oct. 18 with the IC4A/ECAC Championship at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. The Stags’ MAAC Championship Meet is slated for Saturday, Nov. 2.
