
Fairfield University is excited to welcome renowned chef and restaurateur Art Smith on Thursday, April 3, to the Tully Dining Hall for a special celebration marking the launch of his newest culinary concept, Varsity Bird.
The Varsity Bird, a flavorful creation featuring Chef Art’s signature Southern-inspired cooking, made its debut this week at The Levee, and is now available for students, faculty, and staff at Fairfield University.
Chef Art Smith, known for his deep passion for community and food, will join students, faculty, and staff at Fairfield University to personally create and serve his signature Clukin’ Hot Chicken Sandwich at 11 a.m.
Chef Art Smith is a two-time James Beard Award-winning executive chef and philanthropist— co-owner of six successful restaurants, and two non-profit organizations. With a career spanning television appearances on Top Chef, Iron Chef America, Good Morning America, and more, Chef Art’s culinary prowess is well-known. He has cooked for some of the world’s most famous celebrities including Oprah Winfrey, Florida Governors Bob Graham and Jeb Bush, Romero Britto, along with many film stars. Chef Art has also graced the cover of Parade Magazine and has been featured in Cooking Light magazine. His culinary talent is matched by his commitment to philanthropy, including founding Common Threads, a non-profit organization that teaches underserved children how to cook nutritious, wholesome and affordable meals. Chef Art's dedication to using food as a tool for connection, community, and compassion has made him a beloved figure in the culinary world and beyond.
