We ran in the same friend group since freshman year. He played on the lacrosse team and my roommates and I would always attend games. Our senior year, we took up residence at the beach, across the street from one another. On New Year’s Eve, we all decided to come back to school to celebrate together. I lived at “The Jetty”, so right before the ball dropped we walked the rock wall all the way out on Lantern Point. I remember it being so dark. I slipped and he caught my hand. We laughed so hard and shared a toast. That was the moment I knew he was my StagMate. The only problem was, after graduation I was staying in Connecticut and he was moving back to Long Island. We both took jobs on 42nd Street in NYC where we would meet for lunch and walks daily. However, shortly after, my heart called me back to Fairfield University, where I accepted a graduation assistantship and earned my Master’s Degree in Teaching. Matt soon followed and took a job in Stamford. In 2006, right after I had just passed all of my exams, he took me back to that same spot on Lantern Point, where the jetty meets the sea, and he got down on one knee! I said yes, of course, and the rest is history!! We’ve been together for 21 years because of Fairfield University and we still laugh together every day. We live in Trumbull, Connecticut, with our son Nicholas (13) and our daughter Samantha (12). Matt is still in finance and I am a Second Grade Teacher in Trumbull. Fairfield Lacrosse has had such an impact on his life that he became heavily dedicated to the youth lacrosse program in our town, coaching both our son and daughter. He has worked so hard to really grow it into a wonderful sport for our community. We often visit campus with our children. We attend lacrosse and basketball games and recently went back for our 20-year reunion. We still take the kids out to the jetty on Lantern Point. We tell them... this is where it all began!
