Liturgical Ministries

The Liturgical Ministry Program invites students to grow in faith through leadership and community. Whether proclaiming the Word, serving at the altar, leading music, welcoming others, or preparing the chapel, student ministers help create meaningful worship at Fairfield University.

Students of every class year are invited to serve as:

  • Lectors
  • Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
  • Altar Servers
  • Ministers of Hospitality
  • Sacristans
  • Music Ministers

Throughout the year, students participate in formation, retreats, and community-building opportunities that deepen their understanding of the liturgy and their relationship with Christ.

Student Liturgy Board

The Student Liturgy Board is the student leadership team for the Liturgical Ministry Program.

Working alongside the Campus Ministry staff, student leaders help plan liturgies, mentor new ministers, coordinate ministry teams, foster community, and facilitate the ongoing formation of our student ministers. Through servant leadership, they help ensure that every celebration of the Eucharist reflects the prayer, hospitality, and excellence of the Fairfield community.

Music Ministry

Music lies at the heart of Catholic worship. Our student musicians lead the assembly in prayer through sacred music that is both beautiful and accessible, helping the community participate fully in the celebration of the Eucharist.

Students may serve as cantors, choir members, or instrumentalists at Sunday Masses, Holy Days, retreats, and other special liturgies.

The GraceNotes Chapel Choir

The GraceNotes is Fairfield University's student chapel choir and instrumental ensemble. The choir leads music for the Sunday 7:30 p.m. Mass while building a community centered on prayer, friendship, and musical excellence. Rehearsals during the week (Thursdays from 4:30 p.m. - 5:45 p.m.) and on Sundays the hour before Mass begins.

Student Cantor Program

Cantors and soloists receive individual musical and liturgical coaching throughout the year as they learn to lead the assembly in sung prayer and proclaim the Responsorial Psalm.

Instrumentalists

Students who play guitar, piano, strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, and other instruments are encouraged to share their gifts throughout the year. Instrumentalists are needed for all Sunday Masses.
