The Culpeper Language Resource Center
The Charles E. Culpeper Language Resource Center (LARC) provides a multimedia environment of hardware, software, and learning resources that aim to facilitate and promote the study of languages and their cultures.
At present, materials are available for study of the following languages:
- Arabic
- Chinese
- French
- German
- Italian
- Japanese
- Portuguese
- Russian
- Spanish
Services To Students
Student consultants are available during normal operating hours to assist with the software and equipment. Services to students include:
- Special assistance with the online components of the textbooks Quia, MhCentro and MySpanishLab (Italian, French and Spanish)
- Movie viewing (on-site)
- Foreign language fonts and special characters
- Course reserves
- Foreign language software
- Computer stations
- Foreign language television
- Wireless connection
- Webcams
Services To Department Of Modern Languages And Literatures Faculty
The LARC also facilitates faculty in preparing innovative instructional materials which is upgraded continuously by an active student and faculty staff. Services to faculty include:
Equipment Loan
- Portable CD players
- Slide projector
- Portable DVD players (multi-region)
- Tape recorders
- Headsets
- Microphones
Faculty Development Stations
- Digitize Media - drop your movies off and we will request Media Services to digitize and stream them for your language courses
- Conversion and Duplication - duplicate your material and/or convert it from one media type to another with appropriate copyright permission
- Scanners - use our scanners to create your own materials for your courses, or bring your materials and we will scan them for you.
- Multimedia Development and Editing - use our software to create and edit your movies, websites, and other multimedia materials
- Course Reserves - put your language course materials on reserve at the LARC for your students to access
- Texts, articles, photocopies
- Answer keys
- Videos
- Audio material
Faculty Development Workshops
- Workshops, presentations, and showcases on academic technology strategies and integration issues
- One-on-one training sessions.
- Special request workshops and training for language programs or groups of course instructors throughout the academic year
