Continuing Education
As of July 2011, certified teachers working in Connecticut's non-public schools are required to complete the equivalent of 6 graduate credits of continuing education every 5 years to maintain their certification. Each semester, the School of Education and Human Development offers a variety of advanced courses in teaching and foundations of education that would meet this continuing education requirement.

Diocese Of Bridgeport Teacher Certification Discount
Are you a classroom teacher in the Diocese of Bridgeport? Fairfield University offers a tuition discount to support Diocesan classroom teachers in earning Connecticut state educator certification and cross-endorsement certification.
This effort will ensure the excellence of lay teachers in the K-12 classrooms of the Diocese, and is consistent with the University's mission and commitment to social justice by helping to meet the educational needs of surrounding communities.
The School of Education and Human Development at Fairfield University provides graduate level study in its state-accredited elementary and secondary teacher certification programs.
If you are a currently employed full-time elementary or secondary teacher in DOB schools, you have the opportunity to earn Connecticut state educator certification as well as credits toward the master of arts degree. Study in the elementary education program leads to state teacher certification in grades K through 6, while the secondary program leads to subject-specific state certification for grades 7 through 12 in the following endorsement areas:
- English
- Mathematics
- History/ Social Studies
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
- General Science
- Spanish
- Latin
- French
- German
