Collections
The Fairfield University Art Museum holds a rich and varied collection of European and American paintings, objects, and works on paper, and non-western sculpture and artifacts from Asia, Africa, and the Americas. The core of the collection is a group of ten Italian Renaissance and Baroque paintings presented to the University by the Samuel H. Kress Foundation via Bridgeport's Discovery Museum (formerly the Museum of Art, Industry and Science). In addition to the permanent collection, the museum also displays a selection of Greek, Roman and Egyptian antiquities on loan from the Yale University Art Gallery, the American Numismatic Society, and the Worcester Art Museum; examples of Korean, Chinese and Islamic art on loan from Columbia University, and a rich presentation of Medieval sculpture and objects lent by the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
