Academic Support at Fairfield

Finance Club

The Finance Club’s mission is to provide educational resources for members and to assist with their transition into professional careers. In addition to guest speaker events members can participate in the club’s Mock Portfolio Investopedia Challenge and stock trading simulation and competition. They will also be introduced to the Rotman Competition and Bloomberg Terminal, gain tips on finding internships and working at investment banks and hedge funds, and have networking opportunities.

Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF)

SMIF is a student-run investment fund that manages funds as part of the university endowment with a market value close to $400,000 as of September 2021. The objective of SMIF is to help grow the financial literacy of students through researching and evaluating potential investments, especially in the stock market. The group provides an opportunity for undergraduate students to learn real-world investment management skills under the advisement of the faculty advisor.

CFA Institute Research Challenge

CFA Institute Research Challenge is a worldwide competition involving over 1,100 universities. Each year a team of five students from Fairfield University will compete with teams from more than 20 other New York area universities (such as Fordham, Rutgers, Cornell, Baruch, Seton Hall, and others) in analyzing a company, writing an analyst report, and presenting the report in front of financial analysts. Those who participate will have the option to receive three credits that can count as their finance elective. The competition runs from October through February.

Rotman Trading Competition

The Rotman International Trading Competition (RITC) is an annual event that brings teams of students and their faculty advisors from universities worldwide to participate in a unique three-day simulated market challenge. Teams are invited to participate in various activities including electronic and outcry trading cases, seminars with industry practitioners, and social events with their fellow competitors from around the world. In past years, RITC participants have competed in a diverse range of cases including open outcry, options, liquidity, and algorithmic trading.

FinTech Club

Financial technology or FinTech is a disruptive and fast-moving phenomenon in global financial markets. The Fairfield University FinTech Club seeks to prepare members for leadership roles in the growing FinTech industry through regular meetings, seminars, simulated cryptocurrency trading competitions, guest speakers, and networking events. The goal of the club is to educate, mentor, and connect students with prominent alumni and employers to help them achieve prosperous professional careers in the FinTech industry.

Real Estate Club

The Real Estate Club welcomes all students interested in career or side investment in all areas of real estate. The club helps students familiarize themselves with different areas of real estate by connecting club members with alumni and other professionals in the industry. The club hosts guest speakers, organizes panel discussions, and offers field trips to visit real estate companies.

Women in Finance

Women in Finance is an undergraduate organization at Fairfield University promoting female leadership in the field of finance. The mission is to enable women to be successful leaders in male male-dominated field of finance. This organization will connect successful women in finance with students, foster mentorship relationships, facilitate conversations about challenges for women in finance, and engage with the community. Students will learn about different successful leadership styles and career advice from women in all areas of finance.
